2025 Quilting Habits: December Update

My 2025 Quilting Goals/ Habits

How It Begun:

I decided in December 2023 and the beginning of January to change some things in my quilting life that just weren’t working for me. After evaluating the good, bad, and ugly, I came up with my top five habits I wanted to implement in 2024. If you want to check out those videos, here’s the 2024 Quilting Habit Goals playlist.

Since 2024 was so successful for me and helped inspire you, I am continuing this series in 2025! Each month I will update you on my progress. If you would like to follow along and create your own goals, I have a worksheet to help you. You can download this free blank worksheet HERE.

I will also offer a worksheet for each month, too. You can find November’s habit worksheet HERE and December’s habit worksheet HERE. These videos and blogs have helped keep me accountable. After all, I know I will be reporting to all of YOU on this, and I don’t want to let you down. I highly recommend having someone to keep you accountable, if not in a public way like I am doing, then in a group of friends. It helps me so much!

Here are my 2025 quilting goals:

December Happenings

December Update: How Did I Do?

Goal 1: No Home Zone

Score: 0/5

Well, can I give myself a NEGATIVE score on this? I don’t even want to update the picture because it is just that bad! Everything, (and I mean everything) was piled into this corner, from wrapping paper to gifts to projects to old quilts—everything! Wow, what a difference! Things went down hill FAST with this goal. And this is unusual because usually by December, I have conquered my goals for the year. This one got me! I am not even sure how to handle that. Do I add it to next year’s goals? Or move on? Hmmm.

End of 2025 Score: 0/5 Unfortunately, I didn’t achieve this goal, and I am not sure how to move forward with that.

Goal 2: Being Intentional with Quilting-Related Purchases

Score: 5/5

This was a great month for this! YAY! Because of the Countdown to Christmas event, I really didn’t have a lot of time to buy things. I was busy making videos, projects, and, of course, wrapping and getting ready for the holidays. I did, however, do a bit (quite a bit) of thrifting. I have been making upcycled sweatshirts that I saw on TikTok. They are so much fun to make! Because of this and because I want to grow my stash of flannel fabric, I did buy a lot of flannels this month. How could I resist? They were all 50% off the day after Thanksgiving! Other than that (although that is a lot), I didn’t buy much and that, of course, was intentional, right?

End of 2025 Reflection: I am calling this goal achieved! It has become a habit really think about my purchases.

Goal 3: Paring Down My Scraps

Score: 5/5

I am super proud of myself on this one, too! I really only used scraps this month! I made stockings, snap bags, a journal cover, and more, just from scraps. I find myself reaching for them more and more. I have also continued to work on my cathedral windows quilt and finally have it to a size where I don’t think it will end up in a dumpster after I am gone (Ha!). It is actually a quilt size! YAY!

End of 2025 Reflection: Goal achieved! Scrap quilting is quickly becoming a favorite of mine! I find myself reaching for them more and more. I think one of the reasons is because I have my scraps so well organized now, which has been great! I am love that I can see them. For me, seeing them helps me use them. I don’t have to dig through bins to find what I want or need. It really has made a big difference!

Goal 4: Getting Out of My Quilting Comfort Zone

Score: 4/5

Now, this goal really has a lot to do with the MSQC’s box this year. It always gets me out of my comfort zone. Although many of the projects did this, the most memorable is the bag I made. It has a square bottom but the actual bag is round-ish. It messed with my head some and made me want to quit the project completely. From my experience, this is where we grow as quilter. Getting comfortable with being uncomfortable is huge in the growing process, right? This bag did that.

End of 2025 Reflection: I tried so many new things this year in part, I believe, because of this goal.

Goal 5: Better Health/More Movement Breaks

Score: 3/5

I was kind of stuck at home most of the month, but I did manage to get out some! The highlight of the month was taking a wreath making class with a good friend (she didn’t want her picture shown). We had so much fun! I learned about different greenery and actually made a wreath! YAY! Granted, it isn’t quilting, but it is something creative!

End of 2025 Reflection: I tried so many new things this year in part, I believe, because of this goal.

I would love to know how you are doing with your goals! Let me know in the comments.

Happy Quilting,

Kris
