Privacy Policy
Who we are and what this covers
This policy explains what personal information Sew the Distance LLC ("we," "us") collects through sewthedistance.com, our newsletter, and our YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest pages, and how we use it. We are a Pennsylvania limited liability company that publishes quilting tutorials, blog posts, and videos.
By using our site, you agree to this policy. If you disagree, please don't use the site.
Effective date: October 15, 2026
Information we collect
We collect only what we need to run the site and share our content.
Information you give us
- Newsletter and lead magnets: your name and email address when you subscribe or download a free pattern or guide.
- Contact and support messages: your name, email address, and whatever you write to us.
- Comments: your name (displayed with your comment), your email address (optional), your website URL (optional), and your comment text, when you comment on a blog post. If you "like" a post, we also collect your IP address and browser, network, and device details, to prevent the same person from liking a post more than once in a visit.
- Purchases: when you buy a digital pattern, we collect your name, email address, and order details. Payment is processed by Stripe; we don't see or store your full card number.
- Surveys and giveaways: the information you submit when you answer one of our surveys or enter a giveaway, such as your contact information (for example, your name and email address) and any entry words. Our surveys don't require an email address. We collect these responses using Google Forms and Google Sheets.
Information collected automatically
- Device and browser type, IP address, pages viewed, time on page, referring site, and approximate location (city or region level). Our host, Squarespace, collects this information to run and protect the site and uses it for its own purposes as described in its privacy policy.
- Cookie and similar-technology data (see Cookies and analytics below).
- Campaign tags (UTM parameters) on links we share, so we can tell which post or video brought you here.
How we use information
We use your information to:
- send the newsletter and any free downloads you requested;
- reply to your messages;
- understand which content is useful and improve the site and our videos;
- measure how our affiliate and sponsor links perform;
- run giveaways and contact winners and, if you opt in on a giveaway entry form, add you to our newsletter list (every email includes an unsubscribe link);
- keep the site secure and prevent spam or abuse;
- meet legal, tax, and accounting obligations.
We don't sell your personal information.
Cookies and analytics
Our site runs on Squarespace, which sets cookies needed for the site to function and to collect basic traffic statistics. We also use Google Analytics 4 to see how visitors use the site, and Bing Webmaster Tools (Microsoft) to see how our site performs in Bing search results. Google Analytics uses cookies and similar identifiers to collect usage data, which Google processes on our behalf. You can learn more and opt out with the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
Some pages embed YouTube videos. When you play an embedded video, YouTube (Google) may set cookies and collect data under its own privacy policy.
Our site loads fonts from Google Fonts and Adobe Fonts. To display them, those providers may receive your IP address and details about your browser, device, and the page you're viewing.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Some site features may not work if you do. Our cookie banner lets you accept all or decline all non-essential cookies. If you are visiting from the United Kingdom, the European Economic Area, or Switzerland, we do not set analytics cookies until you accept. Elsewhere, analytics cookies are set by default, and you can turn them off by clicking Decline, which also removes the Google Analytics cookies we set on your browser. You can change your choice at any time through the Cookie Preferences link on the site.
We estimate your region from your approximate location. Declining stops cookies and persistent identifiers, but Google Analytics may still receive limited information without cookies, such as the page you viewed, the time, your browser and device, and your approximate location based on your IP address, and may use it to estimate overall traffic. We do not currently use Google advertising or remarketing cookies.
Some pages also load Pinterest's widget library, which powers Pinterest's Save button. When it loads, Pinterest may receive your IP address and details about your browser, device, and the page you're viewing, even if you don't click anything. This is not affected by our analytics consent settings, and Pinterest handles that data under its own privacy policy.
Affiliate links and sponsors
Some links on our site and in our videos are affiliate links. If you click one and buy, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Some of our affiliate links route through sewthedistance.com redirect paths so we can count clicks; those clicks may be recorded with your IP address, browser, and referring page. The affiliate or sponsor's own site then collects information under its privacy policy, which we don't control.
Sponsored content is labeled as such.
Who we share information with
We share information only with service providers that help us run the site, and only as needed for that purpose:
- Squarespace (website hosting and forms)
- Google (Analytics, YouTube, Gmail, and Google Forms and Sheets for surveys and giveaways) and Microsoft (Bing Webmaster Tools)
- Namecheap Private Email (email and newsletter delivery)
- Stripe (payment processing for digital pattern purchases)
Our Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, and YouTube pages run on those platforms, which collect data under their own privacy policies. We may also disclose information if the law requires it, to protect our rights or safety, or in a sale or restructuring of the business. We don't sell your personal information or share it for third-party advertising.
Retention, security, and children
Retention. We keep newsletter subscriber data until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it. We keep messages and business records as long as needed to respond and meet tax and legal requirements. Analytics data is kept for 14 months.
Security. We use reasonable safeguards, including the security features of our hosting and email providers. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure.
Children. Our site is for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13. We don't knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Your choices and rights
- Unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time using the link in every email.
- Access, correct, or delete your personal information by emailing us at the address below. We'll respond within a reasonable time, and within 45 days where a state law sets that deadline.
- Opt out of analytics with the Google add-on above or your browser's cookie settings.
- Do Not Track / Global Privacy Control: We do not currently respond to Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signals.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional privacy rights under your state's law or, in the EU and UK, under local law. If you do, contact us and we'll honor the rights that apply to you.
Changes and contact
We may update this policy and will post the new version here with a new effective date. Material changes will also be announced in our newsletter.
