Where It Started:

It is hard to believe that it is my third year doing this. Setting these yearly goals that I hope to turn into habits has changed my quilting life, and I hope it has changed your, too. Interested in finding out more about previous years and goal setting in general? Start here.

2026 Quilting Goals and Habits

Without further ado, here are my Quilting Goals/Habits for 2026! If you would like to follow along and create your own goals, I have a list of I also have a free monthly worksheet to help track your goals each month.

These videos and blogs have helped keep my accountable. After all, I know I will be reporting to all of YOU on this, and I don’t want to let you down. I highly recommend having someone to keep you accountable, if not in a public way like I am doing, then in a group of friends. It helps me so much!

Want to work on your own quilting habits and goals? Here’s a tracking worksheet to help you!

August Happenings & Highlights:

  1. I had a nice relaxing break from making videos, but I was working hard behind the scenes on some upcoming projects and events! I am not allowed to share yet, but there will be lots of fun quilty-things happening this fall! Stay tuned.

  2. Flowers everywhere! As you may remember, my parents, especially my dad, are incredible gardeners. This year is bringing us a bunch of veggies, as always, and a ton of beautiful flowers! I just love being able to pop over to my parent’s house and cut fresh flowers for my home, including amazing sunflowers! They inspire me and brighten my home.

  3. I finally broke down and took a bunch of quilt tops to the longarmer. I probably have at least 30 quilt tops to be quilted, and I knew I was going to drive myself crazy getting them finished, so I did it (including Holiday Crunch Time). EEK. BUT I will feel much better not having these on my to-do list!

  4. My friend Liz and I went to the Bellefonte Art Show in Bellefonte, PA. It was an amazing show! We loved supporting local artists and eating chicken on a stick. After all, isn’t every food just better when you put it on a stick? :)

  5. I received some happy mail this month, too! A viewer sent me a bunch of vintage Christmas fabric! Thanks so much, Paula! I love them all!

  6. We did a lot of behind-the-scenes stuff this month. You can see my assistant (Brendan) working hard!

  7. My amazing dad turned 80 years old!

  8. The last of my antique quilt has been curated (see Goal 3)! Woo-hoo! Now what?

  9. Stickers! I finally ordered stickers! I am not sure what I am going to do with them, but I have them!

  10. Daisy is doing well. She is on some new meds to help her with pain management. She also needs to lose a few pounds, according to the vet. Hmmmm.

August: Goal Update

Felt Bird Sewing Kit

Goal 1: Use It or Lose It

Score: 4/5

I really didn’t do well in this area. The only thing I really worked on in this category was these birds, and I didn’t get them finished yet. They are a work in progress. I have been embroidering them on and off all month while watching television. These are from 2023’s Jenny Countdown to Christmas Advent Box. I made one set in 2023 and loved them so much that a viewer sent me hers! I was cleaning out a cabinet this month and found it. I really do enjoy making these. I also used a sheet that I thrifted as a backing for the Holiday Crunch Time quilt (see Goal 4). It has been something I have been holding onto for about a year for the “perfect” quilt. I love the pups playing in the snow!

Glow: Worked on something unexpected that I kind of forgot about. That’s good! And I used the thrifted flannel sheet that I was saving. YAY!

Grow: Continue to look for other projects and fabrics to use instead of hoarding them. So much to choose from, too!

Goal 2: Clean As I Go

Score 4/5

I did really well at this goal this month. I had a bunch of stuff going on behind the scenes that I really can’t share yet, so even though it looked like I didn’t get a lot accomplished, I really did. HA! Anyway, as far as cleaning as I worked, I did great at this, for the most part. Of course, I had a few days when I struggled, but overall, I kept everything very tidy. It is definitely becoming a habit. It just goes to show that if you work at things long enough and practice habits regularly, it becomes second nature.

Glow: It is becoming a habit! YAY!

Grow: Keep practicing and don’t lose momentum.

Two piles of old quilts

Goal 3: Curate & Catalog My Quilts

Score: 5/5

I am happy to report that ALL the old quilts are curated and cataloged! YAY! I ended up with 142, which also includes antique quilt tops that I plan to finish. It is hard to believe that simply working on this a little at a time each month really worked at tackling this huge task, but it did! I am very happy with the progress with this. Next up is organizing it better.

Glow: I did it! I thought it would take all year, but it didn’t. A little at a time works!

Grow: Come up with a solid “what’s next” plan for these quilts.

Holiday Crunch Time Quilt with Backing

Goal 4: Practicing Walking Foot Quilting

Score: 1/5

Not only did I not work much on this habit, I actually decided to get a lot of quilts quilted by the longarmer. Unfortunately, I just didn’t have the time this month to get things quilted on my home machine, and I made the decision to lean into the help that was available. I am not giving up on this goal, but I am taking a break from it for a bit and not beating myself up about it.

Glow: Knowing my limitations

Grow: Maybe work on practicing on some small items and projects.

96 of the 100 Modern Quilt Blocks

Goal 5: Sewing 15 Minutes Each Day

Score: 5/5

Wow! 96 blocks are finished! I only have four more to go. So hard to believe that working on this a little at a time has produced so much! If you are keeping track, that means that I made 14 of these blocks this month. Woo-hoo! Originally I made 10 of the following colors: red, pink, orange, yellow, green, blue, turquoise, and purple. Last month I decided to add two to each of the eight colors making it a total of 12 blocks for each color. If you are doing the math, that makes 96 blocks. The plan now is to lay out the blocks the way I want and fill in the “holes” with the colors I will need. Looking forward to seeing this come together! Stay tuned!

Glow: WOW! 96 blocks? I can hardly believe it!

Grow: Just like last month: finish strong! Don’t let these be a UFO!

I would love to hear how you did with your goals this month. Let me know in the comments!

Happy Quilting,

Kris
