Where It Started:

It is hard to believe that it is my third year doing this. Setting these yearly goals that I hope to turn into habits has changed my quilting life, and I hope it has changed your, too. Interested in finding out more about previous years and goal setting in general? Start here.

2026 Quilting Goals and Habits

Without further ado, here are my Quilting Goals/Habits for 2026! If you would like to follow along and create your own goals, I have a list of I also have a free monthly worksheet to help track your goals each month.

These videos and blogs have helped keep my accountable. After all, I know I will be reporting to all of YOU on this, and I don’t want to let you down. I highly recommend having someone to keep you accountable, if not in a public way like I am doing, then in a group of friends. It helps me so much!

Want to work on your own quilting habits and goals? Here’s a tracking worksheet to help you!

July Happenings & Highlights:

  1. Christmas in July: With this being a super big event on my channel, I didn’t do a lot of other stuff this month. That said, I made a lot of projects, connected with all of you, and had a great time making videos. Thank you for all the love and support.

  2. Along with this event, it has been beautiful here in Pennsylvania. We had a few heatwaves, but all in all, it has been a wonderfully relaxing summer.

  3. Each afternoon, my wonderful husband makes me an ice coffee. One day this month, the coffee had a little attitude going on. Just had to include the photo of it! Do you see it’s “face” in the ice?

  4. I received several gifts from viewers and friends this month! A viewer sent me a stack of antique quilt blocks. Thanks so much Sharon! My friend Donna gave me a quilt top, too! I just love it!

  5. Dad’s garden is coming alive! I can’t believe how high the corn is already! He is also growing watermelon this year. So much fun!

  6. Mom has an adorable fairy garden.

  7. I had a wonderful time at our annual class picnic. We decided that this little tree frog was going to be our new mascot. :)

  8. Daisy Update: Daisy continues to improve with her mobility. She is getting stronger each day.

July: Goal Update

two purple fabric book sleeves

Goal 1: Use It or Lose It

Score: 3/5

Although it is a small project, I did use some fabric that I didn’t want to cut up to make these book sleeves during Christmas Quilting in July. This fabric was in a box of fabric I received from my Aunt Amy after she passed. I love the colors and the flowers on it. I was waiting for a special occasion to use it, but those occasions may never come. Why not use our beautiful prints so we can enjoy them now? I love how these turned out. Now I have something that I can use that reminds me of Aunt Amy!

Glow: It was hard to cut the fabric, but I did it! And I love how these turned out.

Grow: Remember this moment and continue to use those “someday” fabrics in my stash.

Messy cutting table and room with fabric and sewing stuff on it

Goal 2: Clean As I Go

Score: 1/5

I hate using something as an excuse, BUT I did have a pretty hectic month in the ol’ sewing studio. This space really got a workout this month, that’s for sure! Most days I felt like my hair was on fire, and unfortunately, cleaning up took a back seat. That said, I could have been better with cleaning as I went, and I think my stress levels would have been better had I kept things more organized. I found myself frantically looking for things that were buried under piles. Is that the real test of a habit? Keeping up with it even when life gets super busy? Something to think about!

Glow: The room is clean now. :)

Grow: Work on habits that can be so ingrained that they work when I am busy.

Stack of 18 antique quilts.

Goal 3: Curate & Catalog My Quilts

Score: 5/5

Even with everything going on, I still managed to curate and catalog 18 more old quilts, bringing the grand total (for now) to 133 old quilts. I also located the rest of them, which was a challenge in and of itself. Hopefully all the quilts will be curated by the end of August, and I can start organizing them. I am still not sure how I am going to do that, but that sounds like a problem for September Ha!

Glow: Keeping up with this! YAY! It feels good to make progress.

Grow: Not getting sidetracked while doing this. I need to be better at staying on task.

Goal 4: Practicing Walking Foot Quilting

Score: 0/5

I didn’t do a single thing in this category, but I did have big plans to complete the quilting on my Holiday Crunch quilt. I wanted to have that completely finished for the big reveal at the end of Christmas Quilting in July 2026. Having it finished, in my opinion, would have modeled for everyone how we can get a head start on holiday sewing. Unfortunately, I just burned out. I was exhausted. It was all I could do to complete the quilt top.

Glow: I recognized my limitations with this project and didn’t push myself.

Grow: Plan the holiday sew-along earlier and get it finished before the event even happens.

82 out of 100 quilt blocks completed in a rainbow of colors

Goal 5: Sewing 15 Minutes Each Day

Score: 3/5

I only completed six additional blocks this month taking my grand total to 82 out of the 100 Modern Blocks. Not bad, considering everything I had going on. Although I did sew each day, it wasn’t for my personal projects, but for Christmas Quilting in July. I don’t count that since the original goal was to sew for 15 minutes each day for therapy. :) My plans changed a little bit here. Originally, I was going to make 10 of each color, but I am not sure what other colors to add at this point. I don’t want to add black, white, or gray because I am going to use one of those (I think) for sashing. Because of this, I decided to make two more of each of the eight colors, bringing it up to 96 blocks, and then I will fill in with the final four blocks. This month, I started this with two extra blue blocks.

Glow: I am so proud of myself for making 82 blocks so far this year! This has been challenging but so rewarding.

Grow: Finish strong! Don’t let these be a UFO!

I would love to hear how you did with your goals this month. Let me know in the comments!

Happy Quilting,

Kris
