Where It Started:
It is hard to believe that it it my third year doing this. Setting these yearly goals that I hope to turn into habits has changed my quilting life, and I hope it has changed your, too. Interested in finding out more about previous years and goal setting in general? Start here.
2026 Quilting Goals and Habits
Without further ado, here are my Quilting Goals/Habits for 2026! If you would like to follow along and create your own goals, I have a list of I also have a free monthly worksheet to help track your goals each month.
These videos and blogs have helped keep my accountable. After all, I know I will be reporting to all of YOU on this, and I don’t want to let you down. I highly recommend having someone to keep you accountable, if not in a public way like I am doing, then in a group of friends. It helps me so much!
Want to work on your own quilting habits and goals? Here’s a tracking worksheet to help you!
April Happenings & Highlights
April is here! The birds are singing, the flowers are blooming, and the weather is just getting better and better! Here are a few highlights from April:
Daisy Update: we made it to almost week seven post-op for her second TPLO surgery (third leg surgery in all). She is recovering very well, although she still have five weeks to go before she can resume all activity.
We had a wonderful low-key Easter celebration with my parents. It was just a small get-together with the four of us. Great food and great company!
I made it to the half-way mark with the Tula Pink 100 Modern Blocks quilt project! YAY! Fifty blocks to go! It is amazing how much you can accomplish by sewing a little each day.
This month I had an MRI done on my shoulder. I am happy to report that there isn’t a rotator cuff tear present. YAY! I am officially diagnosed with a frozen shoulder. Boo. I am going to continue with physical therapy. To celebrate, Brendan and I went out for milkshakes after my MRI.
Time for a little bragging (forgive me!)--I hit 7 million views this month! That is so crazy! I can’t even wrap my head around it! Thank you to everyone for all of your support!
I worked on the postage stamp blocks this month. I am really enjoying slow sewing. I still need to work on my hand-piecing technique, but it is coming along.
I made not one but TWO quilts using fabric from Walmart! I have a video tutorial on this as well as a blog. Such fun projects!
I did a lot of thrifting and yard saling this month, too! I even picked up TWO child-size sewing machines, each for 50 cents! So cute! I am not sure what I am going to do with them, but they sure are sweet!
April: Goal Update
Goal 1: Use It or Lose It
Score: 5/5
I knocked this goal out of the park this month! Not only did I work on a project that I was going to donate, I also sorted through a bunch of UFOs (UnFinished Objects), culled the ones I no longer wanted to finish, and organized the rest. I even wrote the projects down so I know what is in the specific containers. This goal has helped me look at items in a healthier way. Instead of having guilt about the UFOs, I am assessing them. What do I really want to finish (use) and what do I want to re-home (lose).
Glow: Working systematically with a good attitude! YAY!
Grow: Continue to go through bins, baskets, etc. with a guilt-free attitude.
Goal 2: Clean As I Go
Score: 4/5
I was doing so well! I really was! I was staying on top of the many messes and piles that come with this wonderful hobby. Until I went to the first community yard sale event of 2026. I bought a bunch of stuff that I really didn’t need. I also didn’t have a plan for these items once I got them home. They all landed on my cutting table, which defeats the purpose of cleaning as I go, especially since I don’t have a place to work. It also makes the space look messy, which isn’t great for my creativity or mental health.
Glow: I know I can do this, especially because I did so well all month. I am not letting one hiccup derail me.
Grow: Get better about asking myself if I really need certain items at yard sales or thrift stores, even if the price is too good to be true.
Goal 3: Curate & Catalog My Quilts
Score: 5/5
Such an improvement from last month! I curated 53 old quilts this month! Such an improvement from last month! If you are keeping track, I am up to 86 old quilts curated! This really came in handy when I was changing out one of my quilt ladders that is in my entryway. It is a bit embarrassing to admit this, but I hadn’t changed the quilts out since September! I didn’t even update the quilt for Christmas! Having many of the old quilts in a spreadsheet helped me with this. I could go through my list, find the ones I wanted to display, and find them so easily! YAY! Also, much to my surprise, while I was curating these quilts, I rediscovered an old “ugly” quilt. Wondering why it is so heavy, I peeked inside. There’s another old quilt in there! Woohoo!
Glow: This system is already paying off. I am able to find quilts easily now.
Grow: Continue to reap the benefits of this system, and get ALL of the quilts curated.
Goal 4: Practicing Walking Foot Quilting
Score: 4/5
Although I only quilted one quilt this month, The Walmart Quilt, I was very brave in quilting it. I know, I know–that seems weird to say (by the way, I am a former English teacher and love using the double dash; I am not using AI to write this. Just saying). Anyway, saying that I was brave is weird, but I did something I have never done before. I mixed a grid with a wave, and I love it! I will definitely be using this technique again. I also used fleece on the back of the quilt, which I love, too!
Glow: It is all about getting out of your comfort zone, right?
Grow: Quilt more quilts! You have a bunch to do, Kris. Just do it!
Goal 5: Sewing 15 Minutes Each Day
Score: 3/5
I am now happy to announce that I am halfway through the 100 Modern Quilt Blocks, but I am unhappy to mention that I wasn’t great at sewing personal projects (not Sew The Distance or business projects) this month. The original idea for this goal was to help with my mental health and sew for fun each day. I did do that some and made 10 more blocks for this ongoing project, but I didn’t sew for myself much more than that. I can tell in my attitude, too. I really do love to sew, and sewing 15 minutes for myself each day helps my mood.
Glow: As I have mentioned before, just noticing the shortcomings is growth.
Grow: Making this a priority helps. I want to do better at this in May.
I would love to hear how you did with your goals this month. Let me know in the comments!
Happy Quilting,
Kris
