It is hard to believe that it it my third year doing this. Setting these yearly goals that I hope to turn into habits has changed my quilting life, and I hope it has changed your, too. Interested in finding out more about previous years and goal setting in general? Start here.
2026 Quilting Goals and Habits
Without further ado, here are my Quilting Goals/Habits for 2026! If you would like to follow along and create your own goals, I have a list of I also have a free monthly worksheet to help track your goals each month.
These videos and blogs have helped keep my accountable. After all, I know I will be reporting to all of YOU on this, and I don’t want to let you down. I highly recommend having someone to keep you accountable, if not in a public way like I am doing, then in a group of friends. It helps me so much!
Want to work on your own quilting habits and goals? Here’s a tracking worksheet to help you!
May Happenings & Highlights:
Daisy Update: Our golden retriever, Daisy, is just under 12 weeks out from TPLO surgery (yay!). Although she has had a few setbacks with her recovery, she is on the right track now and is getting stronger and stronger each day. I will be happy when she is able to play and run again.
I went on a quilt retreat with six other quilting friends this month. It was so nice to get away and sew for three days straight. Good food, good friends, and a whole lotta of quilting going on!
We have a tradition of giving small gifts to everyone. I made lanyards and keychains and gave everyone a project tote. It was so much fun!
During the quilt retreat, finished all of the scrappy log cabin blocks and two zipper pouches. I also worked on the 12 Days of Christmas project (no pictures of this since is
My youngest son, Mitchell, sent me flowers for Mother’s Day! It was such a wonderful surprise. It was made even more special because my good friend, who is a florist, made the bouquet for me.
We went to the local nursery and bought some flowers for our yard. I also planted my very first herb garden. We love cooking with fresh herbs. This year they will be right from my backyard. Although my dad is a gardener, I didn’t inherit the green-thumb gene, so we will see!
I finished assembling and quilting the Patriotic scrappy log cabin quilt and the purple Walmart quilt. It has been fun learning and experimenting with walking foot quilting.
May: Goal Update
Goal 1: Use It or Lose It
Score: 5/5 or 6/5? 😃
Can I give myself a 6/5? Is that allowed? I did so well at this goal this month! Not only did I clean out a bunch of project bins, sort out items, and package them to rehome, I also made some projects from fabric that I have been keeping (hoarding?). I went on a quilt retreat in May, and one of our traditions is to buy or make small gifts for everyone in attendance. I made lanyards and keychains from a bunch of batik fabric that I had. While I was on the retreat, I used a ton of red, blue, and off-white fabric scraps to make scrappy log cabin blocks. Lastly, I also finished two small zipper pouches from a kit that I bought several years ago. It was a super productive month, if I do say so myself!
Glow: Keep it up! Don’t lose your momentum!
Grow: Keep looking for items to use or lose. It is a wonderful system that is making me feel better and better in my sewing space.
Goal 2: Clean As I Go
Score: 3/5
Things get messy super fast! Wow! Between finishing up a bunch of projects, going on a quilting retreat, and, well, just life, the things pile up. I wasn’t exactly great at cleaning as I went this month, although I didn’t let the mess accumulate over several days like I used to do. I am noticing that the messy room bothers me more now, which I guess is growth, right?
Glow: I addressed the messes pretty quickly, and didn’t let them get worse.
Grow: Continue to get better at cleaning up quickly. It really does help me be more creative.
Goal 3: Curate & Catalog My Quilts
Score: 5/5
May Update: Updated on May 25; wrote this section
Curated 27 more old quilts curated, with the total being 113. I finally finished cataloging all of the quilts around the house, in storage, on ladders, and on shelves. Now it is time to go into deep storage (under beds, in the back of closets, in contains, wherever!) and get them catalog and curated. This is such an overwhelming project, and I am happy I am giving myself enough time to really do through all of these quilts. It will help me decide what I want to keep, where they can be used, and what can be sold or donated. I am overwhelmed with the sheer volume of old quilts in my collection. I know there are some I can part with, too. As always, my goal is to honor the makers the best way I know how.
Glow: I am doing it! Woohoo!
Grow: Don’t get discouraged or overwhelmed. Keep going, even though it is at the hard part.
Goal 4: Practicing Walking Foot Quilting
Score: 5/5
I am really on a roll this month with everything, including walking-foot quilting. I quilted two quilts this month. For the first one, the Patriotic scrappy log cabin quilt, I started by adding a wave on the diagonal with the intention of doing a cross-hatch wave going the opposite direction, but after quilting about 20 wavy lines, I felt like they were too close together. Time to seam rip every other wavy line. This took forever, but I did it! Phew! I love how it turned out. For the second quilt, the purple version of the Walmart Quilt, I wanted to really push myself with the quilting designs. I was inspired by the book Walk and tried my hand at the orange peel design. I am in love with this! It isn’t perfect, and I am still learning, but I will definitely use this quilting design again. I love the overall texture of both quilts!
Glow: I did it! I pushed myself and love the results!
Grow: Keep on quilting and trying new things!
Goal 5: Sewing 15 Minutes Each Day
Score: 4/5
I did pretty well with this goal, too, although I have to admit there were days I didn’t get to sew at all. Life gets busy, doesn’t it? As I mentioned before, I did go to a quilting retreat, however, so that made up for a lot of the lost sewing time this month. It was wonderful to get away and just sew for a few days! During the past month, I also continued to work on the Tula Pink 100 Modern Quilt Blocks! I have now completed 70 blocks! I can't believe it! I did struggle with a few and pink was definitely not my favorite colorway to work with, but overall, this has been a lot of fun!
Glow: Even though it wasn’t consistent each day, I did make time to sew this month.
Grow: Maybe get on a morning schedule with this? That may help with progress because I do feel so much better when I get a little time to be creative each day.
I would love to hear how you did with your goals this month. Let me know in the comments!
Happy Quilting,
Kris
